Job Description

The Cobalt Group is seeking a Systems Engineer. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring of our physical system implementations which support our 24/7 e-commerce environment. This position requires 4+ years experience as a System Administrator including in-depth experience with the following: IBM xSeries hardware, Sun Enterprise Servers, Sun Solaris, RedHat AS and/or Oracle Unbreakable Linux distributions. Highly desired skills include experience with Netcache appliances, F5 BigIP, BEA Weblogic, OC4J and Oracle RDBMS. Requires a BA or BS in an Engineering discipline and experience in a high-availability web based IT environment.
Essential Functions
Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and OS related issues.
Ability to anticipate potential problems, make recommendations and implement solutions
Perform daily operational activities around monitoring and maintenance of multi-tiered production environment.
Able to manage scoped projects from planning to implementation
Provide 24x7x365 rotational support of systems and services
Required Skills
Identify areas of growth and scalability concerns and recommend courses of action
Work with development and customer service organizations when addressing reliability and availability related issues in our production infrastructure
Documentation of procedures and system configurations
Experience supporting/maintaining IBM xSeries hardware
Two years experience in an operational role with an on-line 24/7 e-commerce business
Familiarity with SendMail, Bind, Apache2, and shell/Perl scripting
Proficiency with administering Oracle/RedHat linux
Building and maintaining RedHat RPMs
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Ability to perform repetitive arm, wrist and hand movements necessary to operate a computer and computer keyboard.
Able to work in moderately cool environments (server rooms maintained at 65 degrees F.)
Must have access to vehicle for travel and transportation of servers & equipment to our collocation facilities.
Previous Skills or Experience Desired
Experience supporting systems running Oracle RDBMS and Java/Weblogic.
Server configuration/Package management via YUM
One year experience administering Windows 2003 servers.
Experience supporting Sun SPARC hardware
Oracle 10g Grid Control
