Job Description
The Hitachi GST San Jose Research Center is a world-class research laboratory located
in South San Jose, in the hills of Almaden Valley. Research activities at the lab focus on all aspects of information storage and storage architecture. The lab houses roughly 120 research employees, most of whom have PhDs in engineering, physics or related disciplines. We are inviting applications for a position in the storage architecture group, where our mission is to explore new applications and system architectures for hard disk drives in enterprise storage systems and in consumer electronics devices.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing software for prototyping multimedia storage systems and applications, such as digital video recorders and multimedia home servers. This includes both system architecture development and implementation.
- Developing embedded software for prototyping new consumer electronics design concepts using both commercial embedded systems development kits and in-house developed hardware platforms.
- Collaborate with other members of the storage architecture group in architecting, designing and implementing various algorithms and programs related to the consumer electronics area.
Job Requirements
- MSc (or PhD) in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Outstanding programming and software architecture skills.
- Exceptional knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, etc).
- In depth knowledge of C/C++ and development of real-time applications and/or embedded systems design.
- Extensive experience with Linux platform, including device driver and kernel programming.
- 4+ years of experience with C/C++ programming in the Linux environment.
- Knowledge of multimedia streaming and MPEG-2 transport is extremely desirable.
- Knowledge of AV compression algorithms such as MPEG 1/2/4 and MP3 is of great value.
- Experience with HDDs and knowledge of ATA-6/7 is a plus.
